Yet another fight is in the works for the upcoming season of Dana White’s Contender Series.
Lightweight prospects Victor Martinez and Tucker Lutz are expected to square off Sept. 1 at DWCS 31 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas – pending bout finalization. The card is slated as the fifth episode of the season, with the premiere taking place Aug. 4.
Two people with knowledge of the situation recently informed MMA Junkie of the targeted booking but asked to remain anonymous since the promotion has yet to make an announcement. Cageside Press was the first to report the news.
A protege of UFC lightweight Diego Ferreira, Martinez (12-4 MMA) is the current Fury FC lightweight champion. He most recently competed for Combate Americas, picking up a 69-second knockout of Luis Luna in December. Martinez is known for his striking, having won eight fights by knockout or TKO.
Lutz (9-1), the current Shogun Fights lightweight champion, has not lost a fight since his professional debut in February 2015. Eight of Lutz’s nine pro victories have come inside the distance. Prior to his professional career, Lutz went undefeated (7-0) as an amateur.
