Rob Font’s first UFC main event is about as close as you can get to a championship fight.
The 33-year-old takes on former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt in the headlining act of UFC Fight Night 188 on May 22 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It’s a big fight with big implications for the 135-pound division.
Font (18-4 MMA, 8-3 UFC) enters on a three-fight winning streak having defeated Sergio Pettis, Ricky Simon, and most recently Marlon Moraes. He earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus with his TKO win over Moraes and prior to that a “Fight of the Night” against Simon.
Meanwhile, Garbrandt (12-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) looks to build off his knockout win over Raphael Assuncao in June 2020. Garbrandt hasn’t fought since as he was battling lingering COVID-19 symptoms. Prior to the Assuncao win, Garbrandt had three consecutive defeats, which included the loss of his UFC title.
