Christos Giagos vs. Carlton Minus

Round 1 – Minus with a low kick to start, and Giagos looks to counter over the top. Patience from both to start, but both are light on their feet and moving well. Giagos throws a right hand and dives into a takedown, getting the fight to the floor. Minus scrambles to stand and nearly gives up his back. He stands and turns inside, but Giagos changes levels again. Fight to the floor, and Minus briefly exposes the back. He again turns to get his back to the canvas, but Giagos is in full mount. Minus trying to turn and buck, but Giagos just rolls with him. When in mount, he strikes. On the back, he looks for the choke. Textbook work from the top. Minus trying to sit up and get free, but Giagos is just absolutely in complete control. Finally, Minus able to buck and slip out the back door and back to the feet with about 90 seconds left. Minus wants to strike, but Giagos buys his time and then shoots forward, and he’s immediately back to mount again. Sheer domination in the wrestling. Giagos works himself into an arm-triangle position, but time is winding down. Giagos lets it go and finishes on top. MMA Junkie give the first to Giagos, 10-8.

Round 2 – Minus looking to stay mobile and strike, but he’s not in a position to be aggressive. Giagos just waits for the right moment, changes levels and drives the action to the canvas. Giagos instantly looking to advance, as well. Minus not being given any opportunity to rest. He’s reacting well enough to keep himself alive in the fight, but there is no offense at all. Minus turns to his knees and just able to twist away from a choke. Kudos to Minus for a refusal to give up, but he is being absolutely mauled right now. Giagos smothering from the top. He seems to be close on a few arm-triangle opportunities, but he’s missing them. Minus scrambles to his feet, again with about 90 seconds left, but Giagos drives it right back to the floor and is looking for the choke. Once again, Minus not accepting that fate, but he is flat on his back again. Minus scrambles one more time and gets to his feet. He wants to strike, but he’s fatigued from the grind, and the time runs out. MMA Junkie gives it again to Giagos, 10-8.

Round 3 – Giagos breathing heavy between rounds after stepping in on short notice, but Minus is going to need something special. As the round starts, it’s clear Giagos is tired, and fairly so. Minus working hard to stay on his feet, but Giagos is relentless and is able to get the fight to the floor. This time, it looks like he’s much more focused on simply holding position. Minus scrambles again and gets to a seated position, but Giagos slips around to the back. Minus stands, and Giagos working hard to keep the bodylock tight. Halfway through the round, and Minus is able to create some separation and reset in the center. Minus firing some punches, and it’s clear Giagos is exhausted. He’s trying to slip and move and cruise to the clear decision. Minus trying to get something going. He’s pressing with 90 seconds left. Giagos focused on the incoming strikes and slipping the potential damage. Minus does land a nice left in the final minute. Right hand scores. Nothing too much, though. He’s tired, too. Giagos with an exhausted shot that comes up short. They trade at the bell. MMA Junkie gives the final round to Giagos, 10-9, and awards him the fight 30-25.
