Just got off the phone with @Ufc, today I confirm that I’m vacating the light heavyweight championship. It’s officially up for grabs. It’s been an amazing journey, sincere thank you to all my competition, Ufc and most importantly you fans.

The only reason Jorge got to renegotiate a one fight deal (probably) and now he’s probably back to his old contract. Is because the ufc needed him. With COVID and the fact they had to produce a decent main event is the only way he would have ever got paid. UFC doesn’t pay https://t.co/LtxdpU234x

My two cents on Jon Jones’ tweet:

He is closing the light heavyweight chapter of his career. He now spends a few months to add muscle and weight and moves up to heavyweight eventually. The question then becomes does he fight for the belt right away or a contender off the bat.

Jones citing lack of pay for him vacating the title. It feels like he’s closing the door at 205 pounds. Hopefully we see him in big fight at heavyweight sooner rather than later.

And to be honest, it just feels like he’s already done everything at 205 pounds. Not much excitement in any potential matchups there.

UFC needs to pay one of their greatest champs and get him to fight the big boys. Jon Jones heavyweight contender sounds fun and feels fresh.

Kinda like when GSP left welterweight, there’s really no better time for Jones to leave the division. Still secures his legacy with a win, while the fighter many feel was wronged (Reyes/Hendricks) helps the vacant title retain some legitimacy.
