ONE Championship returns to Indonesia for “Warrior’s Code,” as one of the organization’s most dangerous middleweight contenders, Brazil’s Leandro Ataides, makes his long-awaited return in a bid to book himself into a title fight with reigning champion Aung La N Sang.
Ataides (11-3) takes on unbeaten Dutchman Reinier de Ridder (11-0) in a pivotal middleweight matchup at Istora Senayan in Jakarta with the possibility of a shot at “The Burmese Python’s” middleweight title awaiting the winner. But his isn’t the only matchup on the card with potential title implications.
Former ONE featherweight champion Marat Gafurov (17-2) is looking to battle his way back to a ONE title after losing his belt to current champ Martin Nguyen two years ago, and the Dagestani grappling ace will be keen to impress in a new weight class when he steps up to lightweight to take on undefeated Moldovan Iuri Lapicus (13-0) in their main card matchup.
Japanese featherweight contender Koyomi Matsushima (11-4) was finished by Nguyen in his last outing at ONE: “Dawn of Heroes” last August and, with a first-round knockout of featherweight rival Gafurov already on his record, he’ll hope produce an impressive performance against South Korea’s Kim Jae Woong (10-3) to push himself back towards the front of the featherweight queue.
