NEWARK, N.J. – MMA Junkie is on scene and reporting live from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 5 event, and you can join us for live play-by-play and official results beginning at noon ET (9 a.m. PT).

The event takes place at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The card airs on ESPN.

In the main event, former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington (14-1 MMA, 9-1 UFC) takes on former champ Robbie Lawler (28-13 MMA, 13-7 UFC). In the co-feature, a pair of lightweight veterans with nearly 100 combined career bouts finally meet when Clay Guida (35-18 MMA, 15-12 UFC) fights Jim Miller (30-13 MMA, 19-12 UFC).

Miranda Granger vs. Hannah Goldy

Round 1 – Granger takes the center to start, looking to utilize her length advantage. Low kicks traded to start as Goldy moves to the right. Granger lands a nice two-punch combination, but Goldy counters with a powerful shot of her own. Granger punches her way into a clinch, and she presses the action to the fence. Goldy able to battle her way out with some strikes, and they reset in the center. Granger still holding the center and is the more patient fighter, while Goldy is moving well on the outside and landing some powerful punches as she sticks and moves. Granger continues to try and work from range, and Goldy has a little hematoma developing on the forehead. Granger again with a combination that scores, and she moves back to the clinch. Knee up top in the clinch. Another scores. Granger controlling from the outside and controlling the body. She lands a short elbow inside. They trade at the bell. MMA Junkie leans Granger in the first, 10-9.

Round 2 – Granger again to the center, and she’s trying to stay out of range of Goldy’s powerful strikes. Goldy seems to have the power edge, but Granger certainly has the reach, and she lands a few long punches from distance. Low kicks traded. Goldy continues to be the more mobile fighter, but Granger again lands a big left, and Goldy staggers back a bit. Granger doesn’t attack, instead moving back outside and staying patient. Goldy recovers well, and she she’s throwing powerful punches and kicks. Tactical battle. Granger with the left hand again, and there’s some blood in Goldy’s mouth. Still, Goldy the one whose shots seem capable of ending the fight. Both women still exchanging low kicks. Granger remaining relaxed in the center. Goldy with a nice side kick to the throat in the final seconds. Granger rushes forward with strikes to close. MMA Junkie again goes Granger, 10-9.

Round 3 – Granger right back to the center, and she lands the jab from range. She’s probably up on the cards, but better not to play it too safe. Granger appears to want to pick up the pace a bit. Blood started to trickle out under Goldy’s right eye. She’s actually in the center now, and it’s Granger moving on the outside. Wide punches from Granger miss. Goldy still using kicks as her primary offense, but she’s not landing often. Granger establishes the center once again. Both women look fresh enough, but the output not as high. Could be a critical round as we enter the final minute. Granger fighting conservative. The trade a few big strikes. It’s another close round, overall. MMA Junkie again leans just slightly toward Granger, 10-9, giving her the fight 30-27. Much closer fight than that score might suggest.

Claudio Silva vs. Cole Williams

Round 1 – Silva with a big left hand to start. He’s light on his feet and looking to move. Silva kicks the leg, as well. He tries to clinch, but Williams pulls away. Silva pushing forward, but Williams lands a clean counter right that catches his opponent’s attention. Silva pushes inside and is able to earn a slick trip to the floor, then moves immediately to the back. One hook is in on the right side. Williams seems comfortable as he defends, but Silva rattles off a few big punches from the back. Williams defending the grappling advances, so Silva just starts pounding away with punches. These shots are serious, and that opens up the submission opportunity. Arm comes in around the neck. Chin is in, but he’s cranking on the neck, and this is over. Williams has to tap, with Silva impressive once again.
