The Bellator 229 lineup is continuing to grow with the recent announcement of a pair of additions to the card.
Derek Anderson (15-3 MMA, 6-3 BMMA) will return from a near 18-month layoff when he takes on Guilherme Bomba (10-5 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) in a welterweight bout on the main card. And former Marine Adel Altamimi (8-5 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) meets Salim Mukhidinov (6-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) at featherweight.
Bellator 229 takes place Oct. 4 at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. The main card airs on Paramount Network and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
A member of the Bellator roster since 2013, San Diego’s Anderson has not fought since April 2018. After Derek Campos snapped his two-fight winning streak at Bellator 170, Anderson beat Shamrock FC champion Zak Bucia at Bellator 197 with a unanimous decision. The 29-year-old welterweight has won three of his past four, including key victories over Patricky Freire and Saad Awad.
Brazil’s Bomba will be coming off a layoff of his own. The UFC veteran most recently fought at Bellator 210, where he dropped a unanimous decision to longtime Bellator fighter David Rickels. Prior to the loss, Bomba had won three of his previous four with victories over Ivan Castillo, Johnny Mercurio and Jordan Dowdy.
Altamimi’s decorated military background and story of courage has been well-documented. The Iraq-born California resident lived out a dream when he stepped into the cage at Bellator 214 in January. Altamimi submitted Brandon McMahan with an armbar at the 1:16 mark of the first round.
The 25-year-old Mukhidinov will be making his Bellator debut. He hasn’t fought since May 2017, when he lost a quick bout under the King of the Cage banner to current UFC fighter Humberto Bandenay, who fights Saturday in Uruguay. Prior to his KOTC debut, Mukhidinov competed mostly in his home country of Tajikistan.
With the additions, the Bellator 229 lineup now includes:
- Andrey Koreshkov vs. Lorenz Larkin
- Saad Awad vs. Goiti Yamauchi
- Anatoly Tokov vs. Hracho Darpinyan
- Derek Anderson vs. Guilherme Bomba
- Adel Altamimi vs. Salim Mukhidinov
