LAS VEGAS – Dana White’s Contender Series returns Tuesday night, and fighters hit the scales Monday to make their fights official.
The featured bout sees undefeated Hawaiian Punahele Soriano (5-0) take on fellow middleweight Jamie Pickett (8-3), who has won eight of his past nine appearances. Each fighter made 186 pounds in their respective trip to the scale.
Through the first 16 episodes of the series, Dana White’s Contender Series athletes had registered 100 percent in terms of making weight. That’s still technically true, though one fight was called off before getting a chance to hit the scale.
Leon Shahbazyan (7-1) was ruled medically inelegible to continue his weight cut, scrapping his planned bout with Brok Weaver (13-4)
Dana White’s Contender Series 17 takes place Tuesday at the brand new UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas. The five-fight card, which sees athletes trying to secure a UFC contract, streams live on ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET.
