A women’s strawweight bout is the latest addition to UFC on ESPN 7.
Cortney Casey (8-7 MMA, 4-6 UFC) will take on Virna Jandiroba (14-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC), the UFC announced Wednesday. The Washington Post was first to report the news of the booking.
UFC on ESPN 7 takes place Dec. 7 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. The event airs on ESPN.
Casey has lost four of her past six and is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Cynthia Calvillo at UFC on ESPN 1. She has failed to gain momentum in the strawweight division, and has been edged out in several closely contested fights. She will look to get over the slump when she takes on Brazil’s Jandiroba.
Jandiroba saw her undefeated record come to a halt when she lost a unanimous decision to former champion Carla Esparza in her UFC debut at UFC on ESPN+ 8. The former Invicta FC strawweight champion has finished 11 of her 14 pro wins by submission, but is looking for her first UFC victory. Standing at 5-foot-3, she will have a height disadvantage when she takes on the 5-7 Casey.
With the addition to the card, UFC on ESPN 7 now includes:
- Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris
- Stefan Struve vs. Ben Rothwell
- Claudia Gadelha vs. Cynthia Calvillo
- Aspen Ladd vs. Yana Kunitskaya
- Cortney Casey vs. Virna Jandiroba
